Good job, SC.
Nov. 8th, 2016 05:20 pmMy heart is honestly weeping for my country.
The Supreme Court just allowed the burial of Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani-- Heroes' Cemetery. Marcos, who in the seventies declared Martial Law over the Philippines, with a track record of human rights violations that include the abuse and torture of activists and the disappearances of several of his critics, is being buried among those considered national heroes of our country. Marcos, the man who stole a lot of this nation's money and helped contribute to the system of cronyism present in our government, is being laid to rest among those who have given their lives to defend and fight for our country.
The Iron Fist Nostalgia is certainly high as of present. It's certainly easy to forget when there's enough distance, isn't it? Regardless, my heart is still heavy with the news I have just heard. The Philippines deserves better than having the names and memories of the victims of Martial Law be spat upon. It deserves so much better than a man who declares a dictator and is currently behind a terrible attack on the poor masked as a war against drugs as its current president.
My heart truly weeps for my Inang Bayan. Philippines, when will you finally learn from your mistakes?
